THE DAILY ATHLETE PRINCIPLES

Defining your goals is a start, but without values to back them up, you will fail to see their importance when others question your dedication. Vice versa, if you have values that lack any true aim, you will lose sight of why you are doing what you are doing. By defining your values & goals you give yourself a clear directive for how each day should be spent. And from there, your most important daily actions become that much easier to sort out.

THE 2 ESSENTIALS

Behind every great athlete, leader, thinker, innovator, or human being — there will always be two essential decisions of living they will have to make. First is their willingness to adapt, change, or revert to a better way of thinking. We cannot get better without change and therefore the “greats” are those who embrace it.

Second, our reach should always exceed our grasp. If we are not aiming for something beyond ourselves and striving for our peak potential we are wasting what has been gifted to us.

If you are aiming to do great things and avoid the trap of complacency, keep these two words in your mind at all times.

[ve_infobox css_animation=”fadeIn” title=”Resipiscence”]res·i·pis·cence

noun: Change to a better frame of mind. To return to a sane, sound, or correct view or position.

This word perfectly describes the Aha! moments many athletes have in the middle of a long season. Resipiscence often occurs when an athlete gets tired of repetitive losing and failure. At this moment they come to the realization that they need to make some serious changes or revert back to a previous positive mindset.

The problem is when the frequency of resipiscent moments becomes too far apart. For many, the rate at which they come about can be weeks, months, and in some cases, years. Our goal is to help reduce the ratio and to ensure that you are continually realigning yourself with your best frame of mind.

[ve_infobox css_animation=”fadeIn” title=”Arete”]a·rête

noun: the notion of the fulfillment of purpose or function. The act of living up to one’s full potential.

To avoid complacency, you have to aim for your highest self; the best version of you; your peak potential. This can be done through a simple goal: Make the most of this sport that has been given to you.

By creating a future that you find desirable, then designing better habits to achieve that future, you are giving yourself the opportunity to build something that is genuinely worth your efforts. The last shift, however, is that you must prepare for the challenges. In order to achieve anything worthy of effort, you are going to have to endure suffering, sacrifice, and failure. But with the right mindset, it becomes obvious that these are an integral part of the process.

What else we talk about and share

Athlete Stories

We’ve all heard the stories about pampered NFL players and former superstars going broke. But what about the athletes in Europe playing their 8th season, making 20k, and absolutely loving life?

Habits

The key to being a great athlete, or anything for that matter, is consistent effort. No one simply wakes up one day and becomes great. It’s done through developing strong daily habits.

Mindfulness

Being in “the zone” is a common term in the sports realm, but the reason athletes feel this way is because their mind and body have made a connection and reached a new state of mind.

Goals & Commitment

It’s easy to create massive long-term goals, but what are you specifically doing today to get there? What habits are you developing that will sustain steady improvement over the next year?

Mindsets

How we handle obstacles and challenges in our path is primarily determined by our attitudes towards them. The weak see it as a crisis, the resilient see it as an opportunity for growth.

Team Skills

Being a good teammate is about more than just effective verbal communication. It’s about reading emotion, developing trust, being vulnerable, and an openness to feedback.
