The common line of thinking is that if we just create goals, results will follow. But for anyone who has ever tried to seriously commit to something challenging, they know things are never so simple.
The path to achievement is never easy, but your odds of success go up tremendously if you have values that are determined before you set up your goals.
Rather than waiver and question your goals, if you have them backed up with the values you care about, you are creating the necessary self-confidence required to push you through difficult tasks.
To reach realistic goals, you must make realistic sacrifices
Hey Everyone, So here’s the thing… I feel as though an entire topic is often being neglected when it comes to setting goals. Simply put, very few people are talking about sacrifice. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s important that you don’t dwell on all the things you must abstain from if you want to […]

The Athlete’s Path to Re-Commitment
We’ve all heard the classic story of the Tortoise and the Hare. If you haven’t, here’s my brief synopsis: A cocky little hare wants to challenge an old sage tortoise to a foot race. The race starts and as one would expect the Hare blasts off way ahead leaving the tortoise in the dust. Seeing […]
The Problem of Immediacy
I was 8 years old when I saw it, and once seen, I knew I had to have it. I couldn’t keep my mind off it, often losing sleep in the process. The Toy Pirate Ship. Once I had it, I would be complete. Sure enough, after several months of pining (which I am sure […]
What wildfires can teach us about life
This past summer North America has witnessed some of the worst wildfires on record. In California alone, 1,485,353 acres have gone up in flames. Why a bad plan is better than no plan
If you were to be dropped in the middle of nowhere with nothing except a roughly sketched out map of the area, would you take the map and try to make the most of it, or would you go without? Chances are high that you would at very least take the map with you. It’s […]
Why The Past Sometimes Deserves a Second Look
A couple months back while I was living in Peru I had my passport stolen. It was one of those regretfully stupid moments where I let my guard down and naively forgot I was out in the public place. Funny enough just a few days before it happened I had been wondering what the recovery […]
Why the world would benefit from more negative thinkers
I don’t like pain. Both physical and mental. It sucks to sprain an ankle, to lose a game, to go through a breakup, or to experience the death of someone close to you. And as much as we want to avoid these forms of pain, they are inevitable. Real suffering cuts through all the crap. […]
